Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Washington state teaching certification; course work and/or experience appropriate to assignment, vocational certification when appropriate; judgment and discretion befitting an educator.
REPORTS TO: Building principal and district superintendent.
JOB GOAL: To provide for and carry out an instructional program as defined by the school district and the state.
SUPERVISES: Students and para educators as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches to the state curriculum as set forth by the Washington State Learning Standards.
- Relates curriculum, instruction and assessment to the Washington State Learning Standards.
- Demonstrates evidence of adequate knowledge in subject matter. Willingly takes part in staff development to increase knowledge and understanding of curriculum, instruction and assessment as relates to position.
- Teaches the adopted curriculum and provides additional support through supplemental materials and interventions.
- Maintains active involvement and participation in professional learning communities. Participates in inservice and staff meetings as required.
- Maintains current classroom lesson plans.
- Documents assessment of student learning and uses required assessments to guide instruction.
- Handles opening of class routines expeditiously.
- Uses textbooks and related materials effectively.
- Adapts instruction to the learning levels of the students by providing opportunities for all students to achieve both academically and socially.
- Supports ASB, extracurricular programs, and activities.
- Maintains order and discipline; provides a positive classroom climate conducive to learning; and utilizes proven classroom management skills.
- Carries out student discipline in accordance with district policy, building disciplinary guidelines, and the student rights and responsibility code.
- Communicates effectively with parents and maintains a positive image in the community.
- Respects and listens to the opinions and suggestions of students.
- Dresses and acts in a professional manner.
- Is responsible and punctual at all times.
- Actively participates in vertical and horizontal collaboration teams. (school committees, grade level teams, etc.)
- Communicates and cooperates with professional peers and administration.
- Respects and holds in confidence all information and observations of a personal nature pertaining to students, parents, and faculty.
- Is responsible for maintaining assigned area, materials, equipment, and inventories. Reports defective equipment and repairs as needed to principal.
- Is responsible for updating inventories and turning them in to the office at the end of the year.
- Maintains accurate academic/behavior records and keeps student cumulative records updated.
- Actively participates in all district assessments appropriate to grade level or as directed by the building administrators.
- Is aware of existing social, political, and economic conditions within the school district.
- Respects the various cultures of our students and community.
- Assists the students in developing pride in one’s self and his/her heritage.
- Complies with all rules and regulations of federal and state grants as pertain to the school and each teacher’s individual position.
- Performs such other duties as may be required of the position or assigned by the administration to fulfill the mission and role of the school in the community.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Has authority over students and para educators as assigned.
