JOB TITLE: Middle School Para educator (7-Hour Position)

 

Bilingual Required: English/Spanish

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED required, with additional federal/state qualifications for Para educators.

Familiarity with traffic patterns and signals. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and to pass a background check. Basic knowledge of safety procedures relevant to both Para educator and crossing guard roles.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principals

JOB GOAL: To support teachers and students in a quality instructional program and ensure student safety during street crossings before and after school.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist certificated staff with educational activities and instructional materials.
  2. Organize, maintain, and prepare instructional resources and equipment.
  3. Collect, organize, and record data as directed.
  4. Supervise students within the school, on the school grounds, or during field trips.
  5. Monitor street crossings and ensure student safety before and after school.
  6. Place and remove traffic signs, cones, and other safety equipment.
  7. Report any traffic violations or suspicious activities around school areas.
  8. Coordinate and supervise students waiting at bus stops and crossing areas.
  9. Escort students across the street when necessary.
  10. Participate in in-services, staff development, and growth activities which will enhance job performance and the mission and vision of the school and district.
  11. Participate in district-wide improvement efforts/district initiatives.
  12. Assist with developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment.
  13. Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with others.
  14. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students.
  15. Assist with teaching students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior that is connected to the school wide behavior expectations (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
  16. Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support the learning needs of multilingual learners.
  17. Engage in professional learning to work towards the completion of the Para educator Fundamental Course of Study and receive the Para Educator General Certificate.
  18. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and family information.
  19. Maintain a neat appearance and serve as a positive role model.
  20. Be punctual and adhere to assigned schedules for both instructional and crosswalk duties.
  21. Cooperate with students, staff, parents, and administration.
  22. Perform other related duties as assigned by building principals or federal programs/assessment director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length: 190 contract days, including 10 paid holidays

Schedule: 7 hours per day, as assigned by the building principal.

Salary and Benefits: Based on experience and qualifications per district policy.

Evaluation: At least once annually by May 1st.
